About this chord
The 7♯9 chord — also called the 'Hendrix chord' — places an augmented ninth over a major dominant chord. The coexistence of the major third and augmented ninth (= minor third) is explosive and characteristic of blues-rock. Purple Haze (E7♯9) made it famous. Its barre shape is compact and transportable across the neck.
