About this scale
The Hijaz maqam is one of the most important modes in classical Arabic music. Its augmented second between the b2 and the major 3rd gives it a deeply expressive, melancholic character. Closely related to Phrygian dominant, it is ubiquitous in Arab, Turkish, and Balkan music.
