About this chord
The altered chord (7alt) accumulates several alterations on the dominant: ♭9, ♯9, ♭5 and/or ♯5. It represents the most extreme dominant tension, derived from the altered scale (7th mode of melodic minor). On guitar, alt voicings use the top 4 strings, omitting root and fifth to keep only the most expressive tensions.
