About this chord
The dominant ninth chord enriches the V7 with a major ninth. This extension slightly softens the tension while enriching the color. Widely used in jazz, advanced blues, and funk, it can replace the V7 in almost any context. Jimi Hendrix made iconic use of it in his funk-rock style.
