About this chord
The 7♭5 chord replaces the perfect fifth with a diminished fifth, adding a second tritone to the V7 tension. It is interchangeable with the V7 a tritone away (tritone substitution), making it central to jazz reharmonization. Its compact voicings on the middle 4 strings are very effective.
